CM pays tribute to martyr Nirmal Mahato at Kadma Uliyan, says sacrifices of statehood movement will guide Jharkhand’s future

Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday paid rich tribute to martyr Nirmal Mahato on his ‘Shahadat Diwas’ at a memorial programme in Kadma Uliyan and asserted that his government would continue its efforts to take the state forward despite political opposition and repeated hurdles.

Addressing a large gathering at the memorial function, Soren recalled the sacrifices of Nirmal Mahato and numerous tribal and indigenous leaders who fought for the creation of a separate Jharkhand. He said the state that exists today is the outcome of decades of struggle, sacrifice and determination by the people of the region.

The Chief Minister said the sacrifices of the movement’s leaders had created the foundation for building a Jharkhand based on the aspirations of its tribal and indigenous population. He emphasised that the ideals and dreams for which martyrs such as Nirmal Mahato sacrificed their lives must remain central to the state’s development journey.

Soren said his government was committed to formulating policies focused on public welfare and ensuring that the state moves in the right direction. However, he alleged that political adversaries were repeatedly creating obstacles in the government’s efforts.

“Despite all opposition and obstacles, our resolve to take the state forward remains unwavering. We will not step back,” Soren asserted.

The Chief Minister said the challenges facing Jharkhand were not new and that forces opposed to the interests of local residents had historically attempted to maintain an atmosphere of fear and exploitation in the region.

He said the statehood movement had not merely been a political struggle but represented the aspirations of the people seeking recognition, rights and development according to their own social, cultural and economic needs.

Remembering Nirmal Mahato, Soren said the martyr’s contribution to the movement for Jharkhand’s rights and identity would continue to inspire generations. He said the state’s progress should be measured not only through infrastructure and economic growth but also by the extent to which the aspirations of its indigenous communities are addressed.

The Chief Minister called upon people to remain united and work collectively towards strengthening Jharkhand. He described the tribal and indigenous communities as each other’s biggest source of strength and said unity was essential to counter attempts to create divisions or weaken the interests of local people.

Soren said the government would continue its efforts to ensure that the benefits of development reach ordinary people. He stressed that the dreams associated with the Jharkhand movement could only be fulfilled when the state’s people receive opportunities, dignity and a greater stake in its development.

He also emphasised the need to preserve the identity, culture and rights of the state’s tribal and indigenous population while pursuing economic and social development.

The Chief Minister assured the gathering that his government would remain committed to the vision for which the martyrs of the Jharkhand movement had sacrificed their lives. He said the administration would continue its efforts to build a prosperous Jharkhand despite political challenges.
