The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the NEET-UG 2026 retest smoothly across 67 examination centres in 21 cities of Jharkhand on Sunday, with more than 30,000 candidates appearing for the medical entrance examination.
Ranchi hosted the highest number of centres, with 21 venues accommodating over 10,000 candidates. Other major locations included Hazaribagh (9 centres), Bokaro and Jamshedpur (8 each), and Dhanbad (7 centres).
Authorities implemented extensive security arrangements to ensure a fair and malpractice-free examination. In Ranchi, Sub-Divisional Officer Kumar Rajat enforced prohibitory orders within a 200-metre radius of all examination centres, restricting unnecessary movement and public gatherings around the venues.
Candidates began arriving early in the morning and underwent multiple layers of verification before being allowed entry. Biometric authentication, identity checks and security screening were carried out at every centre, while police personnel and magistrates were deployed to maintain law and order.
Officials also adopted enhanced measures for the secure handling of question papers and monitoring of the examination process. The question papers were transported to Ranchi under special security arrangements, and CCTV surveillance was installed at examination centres to strengthen oversight.
The examination was held in a single shift from 2:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. According to the NTA, candidates were given 195 minutes to complete the test—15 minutes more than the previous duration. The additional time was provided to compensate for procedures such as biometric verification, signature collection and other mandatory pre-examination formalities.
