Pakur Police have cracked a series of house burglaries reported in the town over the past two weeks by arresting four members of an inter-state theft gang and recovering stolen valuables worth several lakhs of rupees.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Superintendent of Police Anudeep Singh said the arrests were made following an intensive investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted under the leadership of Sub-Divisional Police Officer Kumar Gaurav.
According to the SP, four locked houses in the Town police station area were burgled during the night of June 28-29. Separate FIRs were registered, following which the SIT launched a probe using technical evidence, CCTV footage, scientific investigation and intelligence inputs.
The four accused—Babulal Sheikh (35), Sharif Sheikh (32), Rais Sheikh (28) and Ramzan Mirza (38)—were arrested from Kaliachak in West Bengal. During interrogation, all four allegedly confessed to their involvement in the burglaries.
Based on their disclosures, police recovered around 97.62 grams of gold jewellery, an LED television, a Dell laptop with charger, a Yamaha R-15 motorcycle (WB65G6370), bronze and silver utensils, a green bag allegedly used during the thefts, three screwdrivers, a pair of pliers and an old smartphone.
The SP said preliminary investigation revealed that the gang first conducted reconnaissance of locked houses using a motorcycle before returning later to commit the thefts.
Police are also verifying the criminal backgrounds of the accused and investigating whether other individuals were involved in the racket. All four have been sent for judicial custody, while further investigation is underway.
SP Singh commended the SIT and Town police personnel for the successful operation, stating that the district police will continue its sustained drive against organised crime and take strict action against offenders. The investigation team included officers from the Town Police Station and the district’s Technical Cell.
