Pakur Police have arrested the accused in the brutal murder of a woman and her daughter in Jhena Gadia village under Littipara police station within 24 hours of the crime.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Superintendent of Police Anudeep Singh said Abras Ansari alias Abras Momin (28), a resident of the same village, was arrested following a swift investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
The murders took place on Thursday when the victims were allegedly killed by having their throats slit with a sharp-edged weapon. A case was registered at Littipara Police Station under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Given the seriousness of the incident, an SIT was constituted under the supervision of the SDPO, Pakur. The team inspected the crime scene, collected forensic evidence, sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and launched an intensive investigation using technical surveillance and human intelligence.
The SP said the accused was arrested within 12 hours of the investigation. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to the crime.
Based on his statement, police recovered the blood-stained knife believed to have been used in the murders, along with the clothes and raincoat allegedly worn during the incident. The seized items have been sent for further examination.
The accused was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. Police said he also has a criminal history.
The SIT comprised officers from Pakur, Littipara and Hirapur police stations, along with personnel from the district’s technical cell and armed police.
