Palamu police rescue two missing children after overnight search

Two children who went missing from a village in Palamu district were traced and reunited with their families after an overnight search operation by police, officials said on Thursday.

The incident took place in Kadal Kurmi village under the Mohammadganj police station limits on June 9. The two children, identified as six-year-old Chandan Rajwar and 10-year-old Vishal Baitha, had gone missing around 10 a.m., according to police.

Officer-in-Charge of Mohammadganj Police Station Narayan Soren said the families informed the police about the missing children only at around 10 p.m., nearly 12 hours after they had disappeared.

“The delay in reporting cost valuable time. It was already night when the information reached us, but our patrol team immediately launched a search operation,” Soren said.

Police investigations revealed that the children had wandered along the Bhim Barrage route while playing and unknowingly crossed into Mohli village under Kandee police station limits in neighbouring Garhwa district, about four kilometres from their native village.

Passers-by spotted the two children and took them to a nearby brick kiln, assuming they might belong to families working there. However, the children were not connected to any of the labourers at the site.

As police teams continued searching through the night, a tip-off led them to the area near the brick kiln. Chandan was traced at around 1:30 a.m. on June 10, while Vishal was located early the same morning.

The children, who were found safe but hungry, were reunited with their parents later that day.
