Pre- monsoon showers bring relief from heat in State

Pre monsoon showers brought some much-needed respite from the sweltering heat to several districts of Jharkhand including the State capital which led to pleasant weather and a significant drop in the temperature on Thursday afternoon.

The Meteorological Centre, Ranchi released a bulletin on Thursday evening which stated that Ranchi had received the highest amount of rainfall at 40.6 mm while Jamshedpur and Chaibasa were recorded at 11 mm and 10 mm respectively.

As per the weathermen, light to moderate rain may occur in most parts of the State on June 12 and June 13 as well and this is likely to continue till June 16.

The MET Centre has forecast a possibility of rainfall in most parts of the State for the next three to four days. An orange alert has been issued for the southern, north eastern and adjoining central parts- Dhanbad, Bokaro, Koderma, Hazaribagh, Ranchi, Khunti and Ramgarh for June 12 which signifies chances of thunderstorm and lightning accompanied with gusty winds with a speed of up to 50 to 60 km per hour.

A yellow alert for heavy rainfall has also been issued for June 12 for the districts of Dumka, Jamtara, Deoghar, Dhanbad, Giridih, Bokaro, East Singhbhum and West Singhbhum and Saraikela- Kharsawan while for the remaining parts may experience thunderstorm, lightning with strong winds of up to 40 to 50 km per hour.

For June 13, a yellow alert has been issued for Dumka, Jamtara, Deoghar, Dhanbad Sahibganj, Pakur and Godda for heavy rain while for the north eastern and adjoining central regions- Dhanbad, Bokaro, Koderma, Hazaribagh, Ranchi, Khunti and Ramgarh, an orange alert has been issued stating chances of thunderstorm and lightning activity with winds of a speed of 50 to 60 km per hour.

From June 14 to June 17, the bulletin showed a yellow alert for some parts of the State stating thunderstorm, lightning with wind speed of up to 40 to 50 km per hour.

“At present the situation is conducive for the onset of southwest monsoon over Jharkhand in the next one or two days. It will mostly commence from the northeast side and will subsequently cover the remaining parts of the State,” said Director MET office Ranchi Abhishek Anand.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature was recorded in Daltonganj at 39.5 degree Celsius. This was followed by Jamshedpur at 38.2 degree Celsius while Chaibasa, ranchi and Bokaro were observed at 35.8, 35.5 and 35.1 degree Celsius respectively.
