The Civil Aviation Ministry of the Central Government has selected a total of six airports from Jharkhand for development under the Regional Connectivity Scheme – Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (RCS-UDAN). These six airports include Bokaro, Dumka, Jamshedpur, Hazaribagh, Deoghar and Daltonganj. Out of these six airports two have become operational after development, development of two airports have been completed. The information was provided by Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol in Rajya Sabha on July 27, 2026 while replying to a question raised by Member of Parliament Parimal Nathwani.
According to the statement of the minister, two airports namely, Jamshedpur & Deoghar have already been operationalised. Development at Bokaro and Dumka is complete, while the State Government has not provided land for Hazaribagh and Daltonganj, the minister said in a reply.
The minister also stated in the reply that an amount of Rs. 122.04 crore has been sanctioned for the development of airports infrastructure in Jharkhand, against which an expenditure of Rs.117.61 crore has been incurred so far.
Parimal Nathwani wanted to know whether Government has conducted any assessment regarding the expansion of regional air connectivity in Jharkhand under the UDAN Scheme and funds sanctioned and utilized during the last five years for airport infrastructure development in Jharkhand.
To further enhance regional air connectivity across the country, the Government has launched the modified UDAN Scheme on 04.07.2026. The modified scheme envisages connecting 120 new unserved and underserved destinations and facilitating travel for 4 crore passengers over the next 10 years, said the minister. The scheme will also support development of helipads and smaller airports in hilly, aspirational and North Eastern Region districts.
