A 19-year-old youth was arrested in Palamu district after photographs allegedly showing him posing with two country-made pistols surfaced, prompting police action under the Arms Act.
The accused, identified as Abhay Kumar alias Abhay Raj alias Laddu of Sarsout village under Harihurganj police station limits, was arrested during a police raid on June 11. A case was registered against him the same day, and he was remanded to judicial custody on June 12, according to Chhaterpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Prashant Kumar.
Police recovered two country-made pistols based on the accused’s disclosure during interrogation. One weapon had been hidden beneath a brick near an irrigation well after being wrapped in paper. The second pistol was concealed inside a water-filled well at another location.
Acting on information provided by the accused, police, assisted by local villagers, used a suction pump to remove water from the well. The operation took nearly four hours before the second firearm was recovered, the SDPO said.
No ammunition was found in the accused’s possession. The raid was conducted by a 10-member police team led by Sub-Inspector Kumar Saurav.
