Representatives of tribal communities, social organisations and people’s groups from across Jharkhand on Sunday announced that a “Adivasi Ekta Maha-Jutan Rally” would be held at Morabadi Maidan in Ranchi on August 30, with the proposed delimitation of Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies set to be the central issue.
A meeting to chalk out the strategy and preparations for the rally was held at the residence of former minister Bandhu Tirkey in Morabadi.
The participants decided that the central theme of World Tribal Day on August 9 would be “Delimitation and protection of tribal political representation”. A statewide awareness campaign will be launched to inform tribal communities about the possible implications of delimitation and mobilise them to protect their constitutional and political rights.
The organisers said thousands of tribal people from all 24 districts of Jharkhand, including traditional village heads, social organisations, students, youth and women’s groups, intellectuals and public representatives, are expected to attend the August 30 rally.
As part of preparations, a statewide public outreach and awareness tour will be conducted from August 6 to 18. The campaign will begin in Garhwa and Palamu on August 6, with former minister Bandhu Tirkey participating in the programme. Meetings, public interactions, organisational activities and mobilisation drives will subsequently be held across all districts.
The meeting also finalised the broad framework of the rally, district coordinators and spokespersons, besides plans for a fact-based campaign on the constitutional aspects of delimitation.
The organisers said the proposed rally would seek to build a wider movement for the protection of tribal political representation and constitutional rights.
Among those present were Bandhu Tirkey, Dayamani Barla, former Ranchi mayor Rama Khalkho, Shashi Panna, Dinbandhu Boipoi, Vinay Oraon, Binsay Munda, Neeraj Bhogta, Vikas Oraon, Celestine Kujur, Rinku Kachhap, Arsen Tirkey, Anup Lakra, Sunil Minj, Vicky Dhan, Vijay Bhogta, Dinesh Singh and Nischal Soy, besides representatives and social activists from various districts.
