Police have detained two minors following an allegation of sexual assault against a young girl in the Malpahari police outpost area of Pakur district.
The girl’s mother lodged a complaint against the two minors, following which Malpahari Outpost police registered a case and took both suspects into custody. Outpost-in-charge Rahul Kumar Gupta confirmed the development.
According to the complaint, the girl went out to play at around 11 am on August 25. She returned home about an hour later in a distressed and injured condition, prompting her mother to seek information about what had happened.
The complaint states that a woman from the village allegedly witnessed the incident involving the child at a newly constructed house and subsequently informed the girl’s mother. The mother then approached the Malpahari police outpost and lodged a complaint.
Acting on the complaint, police registered Case No. 200/2026** and initiated an investigation under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police said the child has been sent to a hospital for a medical examination. The two detained minors will be produced before the appropriate juvenile justice authority as per the prescribed legal procedure.
Police said further investigation is underway and that all aspects of the allegation are being examined.
