In a major initiative to promote a drug-free society, Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, organised a district-level competition in Dumka on Saturday as part of the nationwide campaign ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’. Held at the HRD Centre Zohar, the event witnessed participation from more than 100 students and youth club members.
Inaugurating the programme, Divisional Forest Officer Satwik emphasised that eliminating substance abuse requires collective efforts from society. He urged celebrities to refrain from endorsing addictive products, saying public figures have a vital role in shaping responsible behaviour. District Education Officer Sanjeet Kumar said the administration is conducting awareness drives in schools to protect students from drug addiction.
MY Bharat District Youth Officer Saurabh Jain said the organisation works with youth aged 15-29 years and aims to build awareness against substance abuse through creative engagement. Speakers, including District Sports Officer Tufan Poddar, Dr Piyush Ranjan, Sister Jayamala and Rajiv Ranjan, encouraged young people to adopt healthy lifestyles.
The competition featured eight categories, including street plays, dance, songs, speeches, paintings and short films. Drama Group Dumka won the street play competition, while Vanesa Dance Group and Sur Sangam topped the dance and singing categories. Winners received certificates and mementos before participants collectively pledged to support a drug-free and developed India.
