In the high-profile murder case of Sandeep Pramanik, a DJ at the city’s ‘Extreme Bar’, the court of AJC Shailendra Kumar has sentenced all the convicted individuals—including the prime accused, Abhishek Singh (alias Vicky)—to nine years in prison and imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on each.
All ten accused were convicted on Monday; apart from Abhishek, the others include Ashok Kumar Singh, Mohammad Shamiruddin, Prateek, Mrityunjay Kumar, Prakash Kumar, Diwakar Upadhyay, Alok Deeva, Pankaj Kumar, and Sumit Kumar. The deceased, Sandeep Pramanik, was originally from West Bengal.
The murder took place late at night on May 26, 2024. As the bar was closing, a group of four or five youths arrived and got into an altercation and a physical scuffle with the bar staff. Seeking revenge for the altercation, the prime accused, Abhishek Singh, went to his rented accommodation in ‘Sail City’, retrieved a rifle, and returned to the bar. He entered the premises and shot DJ Sandeep Pramanik in the chest, killing him instantly.
After the incident, the accused fired several rounds from the parking area before fleeing in a car. The entire incident was captured on the bar’s CCTV cameras. Upon receiving the information, the Ranchi SSP and City Deputy SP arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation.
Acting on the basis of CCTV footage and other evidence, the police arrested 14 individuals—including the prime accused Abhishek, his father Ashok Singh, and their friends—and sent them to jail.
