Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary and Media Coordinator Lal Kishore Nath Shahdeo on Tuesday strongly criticised the alleged police lathi-charge on students protesting in Delhi against examination irregularities and the NEET paper leak, calling the action “shameful” and an attempt to suppress the voice of the youth.
Condemning the police action, Shahdeo referred to the statement of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who said that an attack on students is an attack on every Indian family. He asserted that the voices of students cannot be ignored and accused the Centre of trying to evade accountability over issues affecting the country’s youth.
Shahdeo also condemned the alleged use of tear gas and force against the protesting students, saying they represent the future of the nation and should be heard rather than subjected to police action. He alleged that those acting against students at the behest of those in power would one day be answerable under the Constitution.
Launching a sharp attack on the BJP-led Central government, the Congress leader described its handling of the issue as “deeply unfortunate” and said the party’s Members of Parliament are raising the matter prominently during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.
He urged the Centre to address the concerns of students instead of suppressing their protests and demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Shahdeo also called for comprehensive reforms to ensure complete transparency and credibility in the country’s examination system.
