A total of 6,591 families displaced by coal mining projects in Jharkhand have been rehabilitated over the past five years, while compensation amounting to ₹1,108 crore has been disbursed to project-affected families (PAFs), the Rajya Sabha was informed.
Replying to a question by Rajya Sabha MP Parimal Nathwani on July 27, Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey said subsidiaries of Coal India Limited (CIL), including CCL, BCCL, ECL and NLCIL, rehabilitated 1,791 families and paid ₹587 crore as rehabilitation, resettlement and land compensation. CCL provided jobs to 968 displaced persons, while ECL employed 174.
The Minister said NTPC’s three operational coal mines in Jharkhand—Pakri Barwadih, Chatti-Bariatu and Kerandari—displaced 4,800 families and paid ₹520.80 crore in compensation. He added that rehabilitation cases are reviewed regularly to ensure timely implementation of resettlement measures.
