The Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ) inaugurated the three-day iRiSE Early Career Researcher (ECR) Capacity Building Workshop (Level-1) on Tuesday. Organised by the University’s Research and Development Cell in collaboration with IISER Pune, the workshop aims to strengthen the research capabilities of early-career researchers, faculty members and STEM Ph.D. scholars by providing training in scientific writing, research ethics, innovation and modern research methodologies.
The programme commenced with Saraswati Vandana and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Welcoming the participants, Dr. Dharmendra Singh, Workshop Coordinator, outlined the objectives of the programme and said that the workshop would help participants develop essential research skills while exposing them to contemporary scientific practices. He noted that the initiative would enable researchers to conduct high-quality, ethical and impactful research.
Delivering the inaugural address, Dr. Vaishnavee from IISER Pune highlighted the importance of collaboration among academic institutions, exchange of knowledge and innovative thinking in advancing quality research. She encouraged young researchers to look beyond disciplinary boundaries and work towards research that creates meaningful societal impact.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Manoj Kumar, Dean, Research and Development Cell, said that research should not be confined to academic achievements alone but should focus on finding practical solutions to the challenges faced by society. He urged researchers to uphold originality, integrity and ethical standards in all their scholarly work.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Sandeep S. Ghugre, Centre Director, UGC-DAE Consortium for Scientific Research (CSR), Kolkata, stressed the need for interdisciplinary research and encouraged participants to pursue innovative, ethical and socially relevant research. He remarked that science achieves its true purpose only when its outcomes contribute to improving people’s lives.
Presiding over the inaugural session, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sarang Medhekar said that young researchers have a crucial role in transforming India into a knowledge-driven nation. He called upon the participants to nurture curiosity, embrace innovation and remain committed to excellence in research. He also emphasised that universities should foster an ecosystem that promotes creativity, critical thinking and collaborative research.
The formal session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Ramesh Oraon. This was followed by the Chief Guest’s keynote lecture, where he shared valuable insights on emerging research trends, scientific excellence and future opportunities for young researchers. Participants also joined a tree plantation drive on the university campus, reinforcing the message of environmental sustainability alongside academic excellence.
The three-day workshop will feature expert sessions on scientific communication, research ethics, innovation, project development, effective research writing and other professional skills designed to prepare early-career researchers for success in academia, industry and entrepreneurship.
