Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) general secretary Vinod Kumar Pandey on Saturday dismissed the BJP’s allegations of corruption against the Jharkhand government, describing them as baseless, politically motivated and aimed at misleading the public.
In a statement, Pandey said BJP leaders should first explain the impact of the Centre’s policies on common people before levelling allegations against the state government.
He accused the BJP of presenting misleading figures and narratives to confuse the public. According to him, BJP ministers and spokespersons often make claims with confidence on television, but people have now learned to distinguish between political rhetoric and reality.
Referring to fuel prices, Pandey questioned why the benefits of declining global crude oil prices were not being passed on to consumers. He said that when international crude prices were rising, the BJP-led central government attributed inflation to factors such as global crises, geopolitical tensions and losses incurred by oil companies. However, he argued, despite crude prices falling significantly, petrol and diesel prices have not seen a proportionate reduction.
“The BJP government’s approach is clear—when oil prices rise, the burden is transferred entirely to the public, and when prices fall, old loss narratives are used to justify continued high prices,” he said, alleging that citizens were being treated merely as a source of revenue.
Pandey also questioned the government’s claims regarding losses in oil companies, asking why their market performance remained strong if they were genuinely facing financial difficulties.
The JMM leader further accused the BJP of adopting double standards on fuel pricing. He said that while the party frequently points out that India imports a large share of its crude oil requirements, it cites different reasons when asked why domestic fuel prices do not fall in line with international rates.
He also criticised the Centre’s handling of the economy, claiming that the government had failed to effectively manage the declining value of the rupee.
Defending the state government, Pandey said the administration led by Hemant Soren has been consistently working in the areas of welfare, social security, employment generation, education and rural development.
He alleged that the BJP lacked a constructive agenda on public issues and was therefore resorting to what he termed “politics of misinformation and baseless allegations.” Pandey expressed confidence that the people of Jharkhand would assess such claims and respond appropriately in due course.
