Lok Adalat settles power disputes worth Rs 76,888

In a significant initiative to provide speedy and accessible justice to electricity consumers, a Permanent Lok Adalat (Public Utility Services) cum Legal Awareness Camp was organized at the Electricity Department complex in Mahuwa Dangal, Dumka, on Saturday.
The camp was conducted under the direction of the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA) and the guidance of Principal District and Sessions Judge-cum-DALSA Chairman Sudhanshu Kumar Shashi. During the programme, two major electricity-related disputes were resolved on the spot through mutual consent, resulting in a total settlement of ₹76,888.
Permanent Lok Adalat members Nita Kumari and Kajal Kumari informed consumers about the advantages of the forum, stating that it offers a simple and effective mechanism for resolving disputes related to public utility services. They emphasized that cases are settled through mutual agreement without court fees or lengthy legal procedures.
Executive Engineer Amitabh Bachchan Soren urged consumers to pay electricity bills on time, prevent power theft and adopt energy conservation measures. He assured residents that the Electricity Department remains committed to providing uninterrupted and quality services.
Officials from the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) also created awareness about legal rights, duties and various government welfare schemes. Consumers were informed that issues related to faulty billing, incorrect connections and power supply disruptions can be resolved quickly through the Permanent Lok Adalat.
The camp was attended by assistant engineers, junior engineers, departmental officials, DLSA Para Legal Volunteers and a large number of consumers, who appreciated the initiative and sought similar camps in the future.
