In a stellar moment of pride for Jharkhand’s education and sports fraternities, Amit Kumar, a physical education teacher from +2 High School Tharihat Kusiyam in Ramgarh block, has been appointed as the assistant coach of the Indian volleyball team. The achievement has sparked widespread celebration across Ramgarh block, Dumka district, and the entire state, marking a historic milestone for grassroots sports coaching in the region.
According to an official communication from the School Games Federation of India (SGFI), Kumar will join the national coaching setup for the upcoming World School Volleyball Championship (Under-18 boys and girls category). The prestigious international tournament is scheduled to be held in Shangluo city, China, from July 1 to July 10, 2026. In his role as assistant coach, Kumar will shoulder the critical responsibilities of imparting technical training, formulating match strategies, and guiding the young Indian squad on the global stage.
Kumar has been a driving force in nurturing rural sports talent for several years. Under his disciplined mentorship, numerous students from the region have excelled at district, state, and national levels. His dedication famously bore fruit two years ago when one of his students, Sangeeta Hansda, was selected for the national school games.
Expressing immense pride, Santosh Soren, the headmaster of +2 High School Tharihat Kusiyam, described Kumar as an exceptionally industrious and inspiring educator who has consistently motivated rural children to pursue sports. Soren expressed absolute confidence that Kumar’s vast experience and leadership would immensely benefit the Indian team, paving the way for a podium finish in China.
The official announcement has triggered a wave of jubilation within the school and the wider community. Congratulations have been pouring in from students, parents, fellow teachers, the District Volleyball Association, and local social organizations. Residents and sports enthusiasts highlighted that a government school teacher from a rural backdrop making it to the coaching staff of an international Indian team serves as a massive inspiration for the upcoming generation.
