In a major breakthrough aimed at fostering domestic harmony and reducing judicial backlog, the Women’s Police Station (Mahila Thana) in Dumka successfully resolved six marital disputes through mutual compromise during a high-level counselling session on Sunday.
The initiative was conducted under the leadership of Mahila Thana In-charge Sub-Inspector Anupama Soreng. The evaluation panel brought together an influential mix of administrative, legal, and medical experts to guide the estranged couples. The committee featured Dumka Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Dilip Khalkho, noted social worker Dr. Manoj Kumar Ghosh, advocates Kiran Tiwari and Dr. Kumar Prabhat, Medical Officer Dr. Babita Kumari Agrawal, and respected community coordinator Merineela Marandi, widely known as Neelu Didi.
During the extensive day-long session, a total of eleven cases were taken up for review. While six couples happily agreed to reconcile after thorough mediation, five other cases involved applicants seeking legal alimony and maintenance. After careful evaluation, the advisory committee directed these five applicants to file formal petitions in the court of law for a structured legal settlement.
