A threatening letter sent via speed post to the office Principal District and Sessions Judge Sudhanshu Kumar Shashi has triggered widespread panic in the region, prompting authorities to drastically tighten security measures. The threat, which targets court complexes in both Dumka and Godda districts, led Dumka Superintendent of Police (SP) Pitambar Singh Kherwar to personally inspect the court premises to review security arrangements.
Detailing the incident, Kherwar stated that the letter, written in Bengali, warned of an imminent attack on the court. Investigators found a photocopy of an Aadhaar card attached to the letter, bearing the name of one Chanchal Rai, a resident of Purba Bardhaman district in West Bengal.
Taking swift action upon receiving a copy of the letter from the Principal District and Sessions Judge, the Dumka police tracked down the address listed on the identity card and contacted the local police station in West Bengal. Chanchal Rai has since been detained by the local police for questioning. During initial interrogation, Rai vehemently denied any involvement, claiming that he did not write the letter and that someone was attempting to frame him in a deep-rooted conspiracy. A specialized team from the Dumka police has already left for West Bengal to interrogate Rai further and verify his claims.
Meanwhile, a comprehensive security sweep was conducted at the Dumka Civil Court. Accompanied by a dog squad and a team of police personnel, SP Kherwar and Registrar of civil court Mohit Choudhary meticulously inspected the court complex. The SP reassured the public that while vigil at the court is always high, security protocols have been significantly intensified across both Dumka and Godda courts following the specific threat. A full-scale investigation is underway to unmask the actual perpetrators behind the mischief.
