Hundreds of fans gathered outside the farmhouse of former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni in Ranchi on Tuesday to celebrate his birthday with cake-cutting, slogans and tributes to one of India’s most celebrated cricketers.
The celebrations took place outside Dhoni’s farmhouse at Simaliya on Ranchi’s Ring Road, where admirers chanted “Happy Birthday Mahi” and “Dhoni, Dhoni” while cutting cakes and distributing sweets. Many fans carried posters and photographs of the cricket icon, while others wore the Indian team’s jersey to mark the occasion.
Supporters praised Dhoni for his remarkable contribution to Indian cricket, describing him as an inspiration for millions because of his calm leadership, humility and match-winning performances. They wished him good health and a long life.
Among those present was Ranchi resident and ardent Dhoni fan Subodh, who celebrated the occasion along with his friends and members of a local cricket academy. After cutting the cake, he distributed sweets and said he has been celebrating Dhoni’s birthday every year, calling it a festival for his admirers.
“Mahendra Singh Dhoni is not just a great cricketer but an inspiration for millions of young people. He has brought immense pride to Ranchi and India through his achievements. His simplicity, leadership and journey continue to motivate us,” Subodh said.
Fans also reminisced about some of Dhoni’s greatest moments on the field, including India’s triumph in the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup and his match-winning six in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup final. They said that although Dhoni has retired from international cricket, the admiration and respect he commands among fans remain as strong as ever.
For the people of Ranchi, Dhoni continues to be more than a sporting icon—he is regarded as the city’s greatest sporting ambassador, making his birthday an annual celebration for cricket enthusiasts across the state.
