BJP delegation meets Guv, seeks CBI probe in Himanshu murder case

A high-level Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation, led by Jharkhand State President Aditya Sahu and Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi, met Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar to demand a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the murder of Himanshu Singh. The delegation, which included the victim’s father, Arvind Singh, submitted a memorandum alleging a “complete collapse” of law and order and an ongoing police cover-up.
The incident stems from a brawl over alleged eve-teasing at the DD Bar in Jamshedpur’s Bistupur area. According to reports, Himanshu Singh and Pratiyush Singh were dragged out of a police patrol vehicle by an aggressive mob and brutally assaulted. Himanshu later succumbed to his injuries, while Pratiyush is currently undergoing medical treatment at a hospital in Kolkata. While local police have apprehended five individuals—including three minors—and launched a manhunt for five others, their handling of the case has drawn intense political backlash.
The BJP has accused the local police of active negligence and attempting to deliberately botch the investigation. The party claims that the officers present at the scene failed to take effective action to prevent the fatal attack on the youths. Instead of registering a murder case against the negligent personnel on duty, the BJP alleges that the police are trying to deflect public attention away from their own failures by shielding their officers.
Furthermore, the delegation strongly defended Neeraj Singh, the operator of the DD Bar, claiming the police are trying to falsely implicate him. The BJP stated that Neeraj Singh operates a fully licensed, legal establishment in strict compliance with government regulations and was not even present at the venue on the day of the violent clash.
Expressing a total loss of public faith in the state’s ongoing inquiry, the BJP urged Governor Gangwar to intervene immediately. The memorandum emphasizes that only an independent CBI investigation can bypass local administrative bias, uncover the core facts of the heinous crime, and secure strict punishment for both the actual killers and the complicit police officers, ultimately bringing justice to the victim’s grieving family.
