National, international and state-level throwball players staged a symbolic protest at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi on Sunday, opposing the formation of a parallel throwball organisation in Jharkhand. Gathering in front of the statue of Birsa Munda, the players raised the slogan “One Sport, One Association, One Identity” and urged authorities to recognise only one governing body for the sport in the state.
The protesters alleged that the newly formed Throwball Association of Jharkhand would create confusion among players and adversely affect their careers. They claimed that the existing Jharkhand State Throwball Association has been promoting the sport for nearly 18 years by organising tournaments and providing opportunities for players to compete at national and international levels.
According to the players, the existence of two organisations for the same sport could lead to disputes over recognition, player selection and participation in official competitions. They warned that parallel associations would encourage unnecessary politics in sports and undermine the interests of athletes.
Addressing the gathering, Indian women’s throwball team captain Aruna Yadav said players were already facing challenges due to inadequate infrastructure, limited training facilities and lack of financial support. She said the creation of another association would only add to their difficulties instead of strengthening the sport.
“We need better coaching, more competitions and employment opportunities—not organisational conflicts,” she said.
Throwball Association of Jharkhand president Vedant Kaustabh also opposed the formation of a parallel body, stating that a unified administration was essential for the healthy growth of the sport and the welfare of players.
The protesting athletes appealed to the concerned authorities to resolve the issue at the earliest to safeguard the interests of players and ensure the continued development of throwball in Jharkhand.
