In a major anti-narcotics operation, Dumka police arrested three alleged drug peddlers and seized 4.49 grams of brown sugar during a raid near Pagwara Hill on Tuesday. One of the accused is a history-sheeter with multiple criminal cases, including murder, attempted murder, illegal arms possession and narcotics offences.
The operation was launched after the Superintendent of Police received specific intelligence about illegal drug trafficking in the area. Acting on the tip-off, a police team led by Jarmundi SDPO Naval Kishore Singh raided the spot around 2.20 pm. The suspects attempted to flee after spotting the police but were chased and apprehended.
The arrested persons were identified as Mumtaz Ansari alias Lakhpatia (27), Rizwan Ansari (29), and Firoz Ansari alias Thepua (26), all residents of Singhni village under Hansdiha police station.
During the search, police recovered 1.91 grams of brown sugar from Mumtaz, 1.34 grams from Rizwan and 1.24 grams from Firoz, taking the total seizure to 4.49 grams.
Police said Mumtaz is a repeat offender with several criminal cases registered against him under the Arms Act, NDPS Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges of murder and attempted murder.
The raid is part of Dumka police’s intensified crackdown on narcotics. In recent weeks, police have arrested several other drug peddlers in separate operations and seized significant quantities of brown sugar from different locations in the district.
A case has been registered against the three accused under the NDPS Act. They have been produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. Police said the crackdown on drug trafficking will continue to dismantle the network operating in the district.
