A 35-year-old man was critically injured after being shot near a brick kiln in the Garhwa police station area late on Monday night. Police have detained several suspects and launched an investigation into the incident.
The victim, identified as Munna Prasad Soni, a resident of Tandwa village, sustained a gunshot injury below the left side of his chest. According to officials, the bullet remained lodged inside his body, leaving him in a critical condition.
He was initially taken to the Garhwa Sadar Hospital, where doctors provided emergency treatment. Given the seriousness of his injuries and excessive bleeding, he was later referred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, for specialised care.
According to local accounts, a group of individuals had gathered at a brick kiln near BNT School and were allegedly consuming alcohol when an argument broke out. The dispute reportedly escalated, leading to the firing. However, police said they were examining all possible angles and had not yet confirmed the exact circumstances that led to the shooting.
Before being referred to Ranchi, Mr. Soni recorded his statement with the police at the hospital. Sources said he identified the alleged assailants and provided details of the incident.
Garhwa Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Shekhar confirmed the incident and said that police teams were investigating the case. Based on the victim’s statement and technical evidence collected during the probe, police have detained three to four suspects for questioning.
“The investigation is progressing, and those found involved in the incident will be brought to justice,” Shekhar said.
The incident has triggered concern among local residents, while police have intensified efforts to ascertain the motive behind the attack and identify all those involved.
