A high-level administrative review meeting at Sido Kanhu Murmu University (SKMU) in Dumka was disrupted on Tuesday after members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest over alleged corruption and administrative irregularities in the university.
The agitation unfolded during the visit of Higher and Technical Education Department Principal Secretary Rahul Purwar, when ABVP activists entered the meeting venue, raised slogans and demanded the immediate removal of Controller of Examinations Reena Nilima Lakra. The students accused the examination wing of harassment, inefficiency and financial irregularities, bringing normal administrative work at the university to a standstill.
Led by ABVP leader Himanshu, the protesters submitted a detailed memorandum highlighting several grievances. They alleged repeated errors in examination results, including discrepancies in marks across semesters, delays in issuing certificates and a lack of responsiveness from officials towards students travelling from distant districts such as Jamtara and Sahibganj.
The student body also raised concerns over the quality of recently constructed campus buildings, claiming visible cracks in the structures indicated irregularities in the use of development funds. They further objected to the discontinuation of LLB and B.Ed courses, saying the move had adversely affected students, particularly those from tribal communities.
Following the protest, Principal Secretary Rahul Purwar met the student delegation and accepted a 17-point charter of demands. He assured them that steps would be taken to revive regional LLB courses, establish a central library on campus and expedite the long-pending student union elections.
