Deoghar Deputy Commissioner Saurabh Kumar Bhuvaniya and Superintendent of Police Praveen Pushkar on Tuesday conducted a comprehensive inspection of the mela area and Kanwariya route to review preparations for the State Shravani Mela 2026, with emphasis on ensuring the safety, comfort and convenience of lakhs of pilgrims expected during the annual festival.
The officials inspected the ISBT, the under-construction tent city at Kothia, Sarsa, Bhalua, Paritraan, the Dumma border and the Kanwariya route, assessing the progress of infrastructure and civic arrangements.
At Kothia, where a tent city is being developed beyond the Baghmara bus stand, the Deputy Commissioner directed departments to ensure proper hygiene, ventilation, fire safety, electrical audits and security. He instructed engineers to maintain adequate spacing between tents and toilets, ensure uninterrupted power supply and adopt safe electrical installations to improve facilities for pilgrims.
The DC also ordered barricading at vehicle halting points near Paritraan, Bhalua and Sarsa, along with separate toilets and bathing facilities for men and women. He directed officials to establish health camps, public announcement systems, cleanliness drives and install informative banners and signboards across the mela area.
During the inspection of the Kanwariya path from the Dumma border, Bhuvaniya instructed officials to lay fine sand along the entire route, repair and raise overhead power lines, clean areas around hand pumps and remove encroachments. He also reviewed departmental works and ordered immediate rectification of deficiencies to ensure a hassle-free pilgrimage.
The DC further directed officials to establish administrative camps, police outposts, health centres, help desks, holding points, rain shelters and uninterrupted drinking water facilities along the route. Stressing the importance of sanitation, he instructed the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department and Deoghar Municipal Corporation to maintain round-the-clock cleanliness and ensure a continuous supply of safe drinking water throughout the mela period.
