Fresh questions have been raised over the transparency of the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) evaluation process after a Ranchi student alleged a massive discrepancy between his uploaded OMR response sheet and the final scorecard released for the NEET UG 2026 re-examination.
Lakshya Singh, a Ranchi resident who appeared for the RE-NEET 2026 examination held on June 21, claimed that his OMR response sheet, uploaded by the NTA between July 13 and 15, reflected a total score of 660 out of 720 based on the official answer key. According to him, he secured 145 marks in Physics, 164 in Chemistry and 351 in Biology, taking his total to 660.
However, when the NTA declared the results on July 16, Lakshya said his final scorecard showed only 116 marks, a discrepancy he described as inexplicable. He has alleged that the error may have occurred during the tabulation or data entry process while transferring marks from the OMR evaluation to the final scorecard.
Lakshya, who appeared from Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, Sector-2, Dhurwa, Ranchi, said he possesses copies of the OMR sheet uploaded by the NTA to support his claim. He has submitted a formal representation to the NTA seeking an inquiry and immediate correction of the alleged error.
The student has also sent copies of his complaint to the Principal Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office and the Department of Higher Education, urging their intervention. He said the discrepancy could jeopardise his dream of pursuing a medical career.
His father, Dr. Rajesh Singh, said the family is considering moving the Jharkhand High Court if the matter is not resolved promptly, seeking judicial intervention to ensure justice for his son.
