Police on Saturday night once again shut down Dhunki Rooftop Bar in Ranchi’s Lalpur area for allegedly operating beyond permitted hours and violating noise regulations. The action marks the third police intervention against the establishment within a month.
According to local residents, the bar was operating around 1:05 a.m. with loud DJ music and serving alcohol despite late-night restrictions. Police personnel from Lalpur police station reached the spot after receiving complaints and directed the management to close the premises.
Eyewitnesses alleged that hundreds of patrons were present, many of them dancing under the influence of alcohol. It was also claimed that some minors were inside the premises, although police have not officially confirmed this. As officers arrived, many customers reportedly rushed out, causing congestion as vehicles attempted to leave the area.
Residents have repeatedly complained that the bar’s late-night operations disturb patients admitted to the nearby KC Roy Memorial Hospital. They alleged that loud music and noise continue well past permissible hours, affecting the hospital environment.
Sources said the bar management had previously been warned several times over complaints of operating beyond prescribed timings, but alleged violations continued. Local residents have also expressed concern over alleged illegal activities and increasing late-night disturbances in the area.
The incident comes amid heightened focus on enforcement of noise pollution norms. The Jharkhand High Court has previously expressed concern over noise pollution, and existing regulations prohibit the use of loudspeakers, DJs and high-volume sound systems between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
