Sumant Kumar from Nonihatwari village in Dumka district has brought immense honour to the region by successfully qualifying in the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI) National Official Course and Examination. An alumnus of the State Library in Dumka, Sumant’s accreditation as a national-level referee has sent waves of joy across the local sporting community.
The evaluation process, held in Bokaro from July 5 to July 8 under the aegis of the AKFI, saw fierce competition with 153 referees and sports officials participating from different states and districts. Out of the candidate pool, only 91 individuals managed to clear the demanding assessment, with Sumant securing his spot among the elite group of certified officials.
Expressing his gratitude, Sumant remarked that passing the AKFI national official examination is a rare feat for candidates hailing from Dumka district. This achievement officially qualifies him to take charge on the mat at national-level Kabaddi championships, the National Games, and key federation-recognized tournaments nationwide.
Haider Hussain, Convener of the Dumka District Kabaddi Association, commended Sumant on his success, stating that emerging from a rural area to earn national-level refereeing credentials is an incredible achievement for the district. He emphasized that Sumant’s journey will motivate the upcoming generation of athletes in the region. Villagers of Nonihatwari and sports enthusiasts throughout Dumka have offered their heartfelt congratulations and wished him a successful tenure on the national stage.
