Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith, Deoghar, organised an awareness programme on the theme “Catch the Rain” to promote water conservation and environmental protection in collaboration with Team Dholavkara and the Deoghar Municipal Corporation. The event brought together students, teachers, civic officials and environmental advocates to encourage community participation in safeguarding water resources.
The programme began with the chanting of Vedic peace mantras, followed by a musical performance by Team Dholavkara and a street play titled “1000 Feet – Deoghar’s Last Drop.” The performance highlighted the importance of rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge and responsible civic behaviour in tackling the growing water crisis.
Welcoming the participants, Vidyapith Secretary Swami Jayantanda Ji Maharaj said the institution has been working for nearly two decades on rural water harvesting and groundwater conservation. He highlighted the “Jeevan Rekha Project,” launched with technical support from IIT Kharagpur, under which model water-harvesting structures, percolation pits and groundwater recharge systems have been established despite limited resources.
Senior officials of the Deoghar Municipal Corporation stressed the urgency of addressing water scarcity and urged students to become ambassadors of the conservation movement. Four students—Srijan Kundu, Vidhan Prakash, Saryak Anand and Dianshu Mitra—delivered speeches on the role of youth in nation-building and environmental conservation, earning appreciation from the audience.
The interactive feedback session saw younger students enthusiastically share their commitment to water conservation, emerging as one of the programme’s highlights. Principal Swami Divyasudhananda Ji Maharaj said the event reinforced that conserving water is not only an environmental necessity but also a moral responsibility towards future generations.
