The foundation stone for a new building of the Sub-Divisional Bar Association was laid on Sunday on the premises of the Sub-Divisional Civil Court at Nagar Untari (Shri Banshidhar Nagar), marking a significant step towards providing better facilities to lawyers in the subdivision.
Justice Pradeep Kumar Srivastava of the Jharkhand High Court, who is also the Administrative Judge of the Garhwa judgeship, inaugurated the construction by cutting a ceremonial ribbon and laying the foundation stone.
Garhwa Principal District and Sessions Judge Manoj Prasad, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Pashupati Nath Mishra, Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Shekhar, Sub-Divisional Bar Association president Brajesh Kumar Choubey and secretary Uday Pratap Singh, and Garhwa Bar Association president Bhrigunath Choubey were among those present, besides judicial officers, lawyers and other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Justice Srivastava stressed the importance of coordination between the Bar and the Bench in strengthening the justice delivery system. He described the proposed building as an important achievement for the legal fraternity and said efforts would also be made to improve the approach road and other basic infrastructure leading to the premises.
The judge said the proposed building should not merely serve as a place for lawyers to sit and work but should be developed as a useful and accessible facility. It is expected to have adequate seating arrangements, a library and other essential amenities, besides a hall and rooms capable of accommodating around 200 to 300 people.
Justice Srivastava emphasised the importance of a well-equipped library in promoting legal knowledge, academic pursuits and social awareness. He said the building should eventually emerge as a centre for knowledge, justice and social engagement, benefiting not only lawyers but also the wider community.
The ceremony also included a tree plantation drive aimed at promoting environmental protection and greenery. Justice Srivastava and other guests planted saplings and pledged to ensure their proper care.
The proposed building is being seen as a major development for lawyers in the district, where the absence of a proper and permanent Bar Association facility had long been felt. The new infrastructure is expected to provide advocates with a better working environment and facilitate the smooth functioning of judicial activities.
Justice Srivastava arrived in Garhwa on Saturday for a two-day visit. During his tour, he also inspected the Garhwa Civil Court, where office-bearers and members of various Bar Associations in the district jointly welcomed and felicitated him.
