Hussainabad police in Palamu seized cannabis worth 1.5 crore last night said sources. The police search team led by the SDPO Hussainabad Divyansh Shukla, IPS, seized a UP registration bearing truck with 320 kgs of cannabis.
The truck driver identified as Rajesh Yadav,45, hailing from Palamu’s Chhaterpur police station limits, has been arrested under various sections of the NDPS act late July 25 night. Yadav was forwarded to judicial custody on Sunday July 26 in reference to a criminal case lodged by the Hussainabad police on Sunday July 26.
Sources said the 320 kgs of cannabis were in 10 plastic bags. Police seized the contraband narcotics at Gamahriya location of the main Japla Chhaterpur road last night. The illicit consignment was concealed in a specially designed and crafted secret wooden chamber in the truck
Confirming the seizure of truck and 320 kgs of cannabis along with the arrest of the truck driver, SDPO Hussainabad Divyansh Shukla said “Our SP got a pin point tip off about the contraband narcotics last night July 25.”
The tip off was that a UP registration bearing truck 14 FT 6583 with contraband cannabis was on way to Palamu’s Chhaterpur via Hussainabad Japla from Bihar side. Sources said the SP Kapil Chaudhary immediately asked the SDPO Hussainabad and local police to get into action.
SDPO Shukla said “We swung into action and stood watching vehicular traffic at Gamahriya.” The said truck appeared on the scene. It was asked to halt. It did unlike others where trucks are sped up fast, sometimes endangering the lives of the cops and officers on duty by futile attempt to over run the police.
Here at Gamahriya police cordoning was leak proof said sources. Sources said the truck driver knew he couldn’t escape because of the strategic interception of the truck.
Another source said the truck driver had this belief the cops would not be able to detect the secret wooden chamber of the truck. The truck driver proved wrong on both the counts said sources.
“We detected the secret wooden chamber. It had 10 plastic bags containing 320 kgs of cannabis” added Shukla. As the police team had DD ( drug detection) kit, a sample of seized cannabis was put to test which the DD kit tested positive for cannabis explained the SDPO Hussainabad.
“The busting of the shipment of the contraband narcotics cannabis is an interstate crime where our police are trying to find out the source, human faces behind it and big of all its destination both loading point and unloading point” added SDPO Hussainabad.
Sources said this is the biggest seizure of the cannabis in recent times in Hussainabad. Sources said consumption of ganja (cannabis) goes up four fold high in the holy month of the Shravani Mela at Deoghar beginning July 30 to August 28.
Again sources said the shipment of cannabis is done by road transport and by the trains coming from the state of Odisha. RPF sources told this correspondent there is a long distance train called Sambalpur Jammu Tawi express train which has earned a notoriety of shipment of contraband narcotics cannabis.
Sources said the Hussainabad police team making no mistake busted this interstate smuggling of cannabis without any latches or fuss.
