Under orders of the deputy commissioner Latehar Sandip Kumar, a team of civil and police officials raided a medical store in railway station road, Latehar and got it sealed on multiple counts of medical malpractice last night said sources.
The multiple counts were first the medical store was an unlicenced one and two under the facade of the medical store was a racket in abortion malpractices going on there.
The team included Sadar sub divisional magistrate, sub divisional police officer, administrator of Nagar Panchayat, medical officer in Sadar hospital, CO, hospital manager and officer in charge of the Latehar police station.
DC Latehar Sandip Kumar said, “There was a complaint against the said medical store. The complaint was highly serious in nature. It alluded to unethical medical practices there.”
The raid on the shop, identified as Soumya medical store in railway station road Latehar was conducted jointly by the civil and police officials last night around 7.30 pm. The shop belonged to Gautam Pandey.
“The medical store had no licence. It was admitted by the owner Pandey. No doctor used to sit in there” said administrative sources. The medical store was selling medicines unauthorisedly for long said administrative sources.
Sub divisional police officer Latehar Sandip Gupta told this correspondent “Under the facade of this unlicensed medical store, there was the raw facility of unauthorised abortion here.”
“A safai Didi was the first to find a blood stained bucket here with the fragmented parts of an unborn infant” said Gupta.
It at once hinted at abortion malpractices here otherwise a bucket with blood and fragmented parts of human body could never be around any medical store. Sources said the matter of blood and fragmented parts of body reached the executive officer of Nagar Panchayat Latehar who later on sought directive of the DC Latehar to proceed in this case.
The raid unfolded the case where abortion was arranged most unauthorisedly and unethically here in this medical store.
Civil surgeon Palamu Dr Anil Kumar Sriwastwa said ” Age of viability of termination of pregnancy is 22 weeks, again consent of the pregnant woman is a must for termination of pregnancy” he asserted.
“Termination of pregnancy is to be done by only registered and experienced doctor with full care and caution.” reminded Dr Sriwastwa.
