In a tragic incident, a middle-aged man allegedly killed his three daughters with a sharp-edged axe in Turukdiha village of Giridih district on Monday morning.
The incident occurred around 6 a.m. in the village, located nearly 10 km from the district headquarters. At the time of the attack, most residents were either asleep or engaged in their morning routines.
The victims were identified as seven-year-old twin sisters Riddhi and Siddhi, and their elder sister Pallavi, aged 12. All three died on the spot after sustaining fatal injuries, police said.
Soon after information about the crime reached authorities, a police team led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Jitwahan Oraon rushed to the village and launched an investigation.
“Nothing much can be ascertained unless we complete the investigation. The accused, identified as Nand Kishor Yadav alias Nandu, has been arrested and sent to judicial custody after preliminary investigation,” Oraon said.
He added that besides local police personnel, forensic experts have also been engaged to assist in the probe.
According to the SDPO, during preliminary questioning, the accused confessed to the crime and claimed that he had been mentally disturbed due to personal issues for nearly a year.
However, the accused’s wife, Radha Devi, offered a different account. She alleged that her husband was associated with anti-social elements and frequently consumed alcohol with them. She further claimed that he was involved in an illicit relationship with the wife of one of his friends.
“The actual motive behind such a heinous crime is yet to be established. We are investigating all possible angles and expect to complete the investigation within the stipulated timeframe,” Oraon said.
Members of the investigating team include Inspector-cum-Officer-in-Charge of Giridih Mufasil Police Station Shyam Kishor Mahto, along with Sub-Inspectors Vivek Mathuri, Shailendra Kumar and Gautam Kumar.
The gruesome incident has sent shockwaves through the village and surrounding areas, with residents struggling to come to terms with the loss of three young lives.
