Jharkhand’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), K Ravi Kumar, reviewed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) activities being conducted across all assembly constituencies in Ranchi district. He stated that no negligence regarding SIR operations would be tolerated.
Ravi Kumar directed officials to ensure that all voters belonging to the same family or household are listed on the electoral roll of a single polling station. He emphasized that the objective of the SIR is to prepare an accurate, error-free, and inclusive electoral roll. He added that any negligence or laxity at any level of this process would not be tolerated; all officials must discharge their duties with complete transparency, impartiality, and sensitivity, strictly adhering to the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.
On Sunday, at the ‘Nirvachan Sadan’ (Election House), the CEO conducted a detailed review of the SIR-related work with the District Election Officer of Ranchi, as well as the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), Additional AEROs, and the Deputy Election Officer of the assembly constituencies.
Ravi Kumar instructed that it must be ensured that the names of all voters from a single family or household are listed on the electoral roll of the same polling station. He stated that the accurate verification of the ‘Nazri Naksha’ (sketch map) is the responsibility of the concerned ERO. He directed all EROs to carefully verify and correctly record the sketch maps, house numbers, and notional numbers to prevent family members from being split across the electoral rolls of different polling stations.
This measure would also ensure that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) face no difficulty in identifying voters and their households within their respective areas. He directed that the work be monitored regularly and any errors detected be rectified immediately.
The CEO stated that the BLO Supervisor would be held accountable for the correct execution of tasks by the BLOs. If a BLO commits an error or faces ambiguity regarding sketch maps, house numbers, or notional numbers, the respective BLO Supervisor must take responsibility for the work of the BLOs under their charge and ensure the errors are rectified. “If BLO supervisors show any laxity in discharging their duties, the concerned ERO should take action against them and submit a report to the District Election Officer,” he added.
