Amidst the ongoing student protests against irregularities in Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) examinations, an incident involving a threat to kill Chief Minister Hemant Soren has come to light. Ranchi Police have arrested a youth from Bokaro in connection with this matter.
The police informed that a video of the youth—recorded during the student protest at Ranchi’s Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium—went viral on social media. In the video, the accused is seen allegedly using objectionable and threatening language against the Chief Minister.
After the video went viral, the Kotwali police station initiated an investigation, identified the accused and arrested him in Bokaro before bringing him to Ranchi. An FIR has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the BNS.
The police alleged that he also attempted to incite the protesting candidates. The police also said that such threats and inflammatory statements during the protest posed a risk of disrupting the situation.
Following a complaint, the Kotwali police identified and arrested the accused based on the viral video and other available evidence.
In an another case of just some days earlier an FIR has been registered against Vinay Vishwakarma at the Patan police station in Palamu, and an investigation has been initiated, following a case involving the posting of derogatory and objectionable content against Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on social media. The police have arrested the accused.
A formal complaint regarding this matter was submitted by Umashankar Singh (Block President) and Ranjeet Singh (Secretary) of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), both residents of Palhe Kala village within the Patan police station area. They submitted a written application to the police demanding legal action.
