In a major breakthrough against extremism in the State, security forces arrested the Area Commander of the TSPC Naxalite organization, Laxman Ganjhu alias Mochhu or Lakhan Ganjhu on Sunday late evening in Chatra.
The police team received a tip-off that Laxman Ganjhu was planning to visit his village, Paramatu, to attend a funeral ritual. To verify this information and take necessary action, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted under the leadership of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Simaria, Nagargoje Shubham Bhausahe.
Acting swiftly on response of the confidential information about Ganjhu, the SIT apprehended him at his residence.
Ganjhu was highly active within the TSPC Naxalite organization. He was the mastermind behind an ambush in 2024 targeting police personnel who were returning from an opium destruction operation in the Sadar Police Station area—an attack that resulted in the martyrdom of two police personnel.
Three cases are registered against him at Jori and Sadar police stations, and he had been absconding for a long time.
Ganjhu was Area Commander of the banned extremist organization TSPC. He is approx. 40 years old and he is son of Rajo Ganjhu; resident of Village Paramatu (Tola Pardih), Police Station Lawalong, District Chatra.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Simaria, Nagargoje Shubham Bhausahe, Sub-Inspector (SI) Chandan Kumar, Station In-charge, Lawalong Police Station, Sub-Inspector (SI) Vidhayak Prasad Yadav, Lawalong Police Station and Lawalong Police Station Armed Force were involved in the operation.
