Nearly 150 Income Tax employees staged a lunch-hour demonstration and meeting at the Central Revenue Building here on Wednesday, demanding restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).
The programme was organised by the Ranchi Unit of the Income Tax Employees’ Federation (ITEF), with employees raising slogans and voicing their demand for a secure and dignified post-retirement life.
ITEF Ranchi Unit Secretary Aabhash Nath said OPS was essential to ensure financial security and dignity after retirement. He said employees devoted their most productive years to government service and deserved certainty rather than financial insecurity after retirement.
Unit president Manoj Kumar Shukla said the organisation’s campaign for restoration of OPS would continue through peaceful and democratic means. He described the demand as one concerning social and financial security, rather than merely pension benefits.
ITEF member Rupak Prasad called for unity among government employees across the country, saying collective action was necessary to press for retirement security.
The Ranchi unit said its demand was not directed against any category of employees but sought social security and dignity for those who had spent decades in government service.
The participation of around 150 employees reflected the unit’s support for the restoration of OPS, organisers said.
