Bauri condemns brutal murder of pregnant woman in Bermo

May 31, 2026

Pioneer News Service, Ranchi

The Jharkhand BJP has condemned the brutal murder of Anita Devi—a four-month pregnant woman from Bermo in the Bokaro district. Addressing a press conference at the party’s state headquarters in Ranchi, State General Secretary Amar Kumar Bauri stated that, under pressure from the BJP, the police hastily arrested six individuals in connection with the case—an action he deemed insufficient. He alleged that every possible attempt was made to “manage” the case at the behest of the state government, the local Deputy Commissioner (DC), the Superintendent of Police (SP), and the local Congress MLA. He further claimed that it was only after the BJP issued an ultimatum to stage a Bokaro Chakka Jam (road blockade) that the local police made a futile attempt to save face by arresting a few named individuals.

Bauri asserted that the BJP demands the immediate arrest of the main ringleader involved in this case; a compensation of ₹25 lakh for the victim’s family; and strict action against the police officials implicated in the incident, as well as against the medical personnel who obstructed or compromised the integrity of the post-mortem examination. Additionally, the BJP has demanded an inquiry into the conduct of the Bokaro DC, the SP, and the local police stations. He argued that the entire local administrative machinery—along with an organized syndicate—must be investigated, as they appear to be flourishing under the patronage of the Congress party and its MLA, and under the overall supervision of the state government.

The State General Secretary affirmed that the BJP stands firmly and with full strength behind the victim’s family in their quest for justice. Party representatives are scheduled to visit the victim’s family once again on June 1st. State President Aditya Sahu has categorically stated that the party will pursue this struggle to its very end, and if necessary, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes will also be formally apprised of the matter in writing.
