In an effort to strengthen legal awareness on land-related issues and reduce the growing number of property disputes, a one-day workshop on Land Awareness (Bhoomi Bodh) was organised at the Civil Court conference hall in Lohardaga under the joint aegis of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and Gram Niyojan Kendra.
The workshop aimed to equip Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) with the knowledge and skills required to assist citizens in resolving land-related disputes through legal awareness and proper documentation. The programme was inaugurated with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Principal District and Sessions Judge-cum-DLSA Chairman Rajkamal Mishra, DLSA Secretary Manoranjan Kumar, District Bar Association President Hemant Kumar Sinha, Secretary Lal Deepak Kumar, Gram Niyojan Kendra Field Manager Istiyaq Ahmad, and Landesa Project Manager Dr. Himal Pokharel.
Addressing the participants, Rajkamal Mishra said nearly 90 per cent of disputes in any region are related to land, with many eventually escalating into criminal cases due to a lack of legal awareness. He stressed that while several disputes are settled through mutual understanding, the absence of proper documentation often leaves room for exploitation. He urged PLVs to spread awareness about land rights and legal procedures in their respective communities.
District Bar Association President Hemant Kumar Sinha highlighted that many people remain unaware of the legal mechanisms available for resolving land disputes. He encouraged the volunteers to develop a sound understanding of land laws so they can effectively guide the public.
DLSA Secretary Manoranjan Kumar advised PLVs to educate themselves thoroughly before assisting others and assured them of expert support whenever required. He noted that land disputes frequently continue across generations, underscoring the need for awareness and proper record-keeping.
Experts at the workshop also conducted sessions on land classification, registration, mutation, the significance of land documents, the roles of revenue officials, and procedures for accessing online land records (Khatiyan). Several judicial officers, legal professionals, and participants attended the programme.
