Tribal woman allegedly paraded semi-naked in Pakur village

June 30, 2026

FIR against seven, police launch probe

Kartik Kumar

Pakur

A shocking incident in Jharkhand’s Pakur district has sparked outrage after a married woman was allegedly paraded in a semi-naked condition through a village over an alleged extramarital relationship. Police have registered an FIR against seven named accused and 30 unidentified persons, while an investigation is underway.

The incident reportedly occurred on June 26 in Burhiduba village under Amrapara police station limits. Videos purportedly showing the woman and her alleged partner being paraded in undergarments and assaulted with sticks have been circulating on social media over the past several days, drawing widespread condemnation.

According to police sources, the woman and the man were allegedly targeted by villagers over an alleged consensual relationship. The woman is married, while the man is also reportedly married and a resident of Borio block in neighbouring Sahibganj district.

After receiving information about the incident, police rushed to the village, rescued the couple and took them into protective custody. Security personnel were deployed in the area to prevent any disturbance to law and order. Police Inspector and Amrapara Station House Officer Anoop Roshan Bhengra, Sub-Inspector Chandan Kumar and other officers supervised the operation. Maheshpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Vijay Kumar also visited the area to review the situation.

Based on the survivor’s statement, Amrapara Police have registered Case No. 49/2026 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act. Seven persons have been named in the FIR, while more than 25 unidentified individuals have also been booked.

Police are also examining the circulation of videos related to the incident on social media and the role of those involved in recording and sharing the footage.

The alleged public humiliation has triggered debate over women’s dignity, the rule of law and the misuse of traditional community mechanisms. While the alleged relationship has been described by locals as socially unacceptable, legal experts point out that a consensual relationship between two adults does not justify acts of public violence or humiliation.

Questions have also been raised over the alleged involvement of local community leaders. The role of the village head is reportedly under scrutiny. The local mukhiya, Sahebjan Kisku, condemned the incident, calling it “highly reprehensible” and deserving of strict legal action.

Maheshpur SDPO Vijay Kumar confirmed that a criminal case has been registered and said raids are being conducted to arrest the accused.

The investigation is ongoing, and police have appealed to the public not to circulate objectionable videos related to the case, warning that legal action will be taken against those found violating the law.
