Political tensions escalated in Jharkhand’s capital on Tuesday as workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress came face-to-face outside the state Congress headquarters during a protest over alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) preliminary examination.
Thousands of BJP Yuva Morcha workers first staged a demonstration outside the JPSC office before marching towards the Congress office. Police personnel deployed at the site erected barricades to prevent the protesters from entering the premises.
The situation turned tense as BJP and Congress workers confronted each other, raising slogans and trading allegations over the JPSC controversy and the NEET examination issue. Police intervened promptly, separating the two groups and restoring order. No major injuries or damage were immediately reported.
BJP Yuva Morcha state president Shashank Raj accused the state government of compromising the future of job aspirants and demanded an impartial probe into the alleged irregularities in the JPSC examination. He also called for strict action against those found responsible.
Responding to the allegations, Congress leader Shahbaz said the resignation of JPSC Chairman L. Khiangte had already been submitted to the government, arguing that the BJP’s protest was politically motivated. He, in turn, questioned the BJP over the NEET paper leak controversy and demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on moral grounds.
Heavy police deployment remained in place outside the Congress office to prevent any further escalation. Authorities said the situation was under control.
The confrontation comes amid growing political controversy over recruitment examinations in Jharkhand, with both the ruling alliance and the opposition intensifying their attacks over examination-related issues.
