The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday sought a time-bound investigation into alleged financial irregularities linked to treasury accounts in Jharkhand and called for stringent action against officials found prima facie responsible.
Addressing the media, BJP Jharkhand chief spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo expressed concern over the pace of the ongoing probe and alleged that despite the state government’s recommendation for a special audit by the Accountant General (AG), documents sought by the AG’s office were yet to be provided. He said the delay had raised questions about the progress and transparency of the investigation.
Shah Deo referred to statements made by the state’s finance department regarding unreconciled accounts amounting to nearly ₹10,000 crore and urged the government to ensure that all aspects of the matter are thoroughly examined. He also questioned why no treasury officials allegedly linked to the irregularities had faced major disciplinary action so far.
According to the BJP leader, action taken to date has largely been limited to lower-level functionaries, while the investigation should cover all those involved, irrespective of their position. He also reiterated the party’s earlier concerns regarding the composition of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the role of the CID in the inquiry, stressing the need for a clear timeline for submission of the investigation report.
Shah Deo said the BJP would continue to raise the issue both inside and outside the legislature and seek accountability in the handling of public funds. He demanded a transparent and time-bound probe and called for appropriate action against officials found prima facie culpable to ensure an impartial investigation.
