The Rotary Club of Bokaro Steel City celebrated Press Day with media professionals, acknowledging their vital contribution to society and public awareness.
Welcoming the gathering, Club President Rotarian Hardeep Singh expressed appreciation for the role of journalists in strengthening informed public discourse. Secretary Rotarian Ghanshyam Das said that although World Press Freedom Day is officially observed on May 3, the programme was held on May 30 due to unavoidable circumstances. He highlighted Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self,” and lauded the media’s commitment to responsible reporting.
Speaking on the World Press Freedom Day theme, “Shaping a Future at Peace,” Rotarian Chandrama Rai underlined the importance of press freedom and ethical journalism. Media representatives, including Ram Pravesh, Rajat Nath, Vijay Kumar Jha and Rahul Sharma, also shared their views on responsible journalism and the challenges posed by misinformation.
On the occasion, journalists were honoured with mementoes in recognition of their contribution to society. During the vote of thanks, Ghanshyam Das sought media support for Rotary’s “Gift of Life” project scheduled for July 18, which will provide free treatment to children suffering from congenital heart disease.
