Deputy Commissioner-cum-Principal Census Officer Abhijit Sinha on Monday chaired a high-level review meeting through video conferencing to assess preparations and progress related to the upcoming Census 2027. The meeting was attended by all regional charge officers and district-level census officials.
The review primarily focused on the first phase of the census exercise, which includes house listing and the housing census across the district. During the meeting, the Jama charge area was lauded for achieving 100 percent completion of its house-listing work. Appreciating the accomplishment, the Deputy Commissioner congratulated the Block Development Officer of Jama and the field staff involved in the exercise. He also directed officials of other charge areas to follow the same pace and ensure timely completion of their assigned targets.
However, progress in urban areas emerged as a matter of concern. The pace of work in the Dumka Municipal Council and Basukinath Nagar Panchayat areas was found to be unsatisfactory. Expressing displeasure over the slow progress, Sinha instructed the Executive Officers of both urban local bodies and other underperforming charge officers to expedite the work without delay.
Emphasizing the significance of the census, he described it as an administrative exercise of national importance and called upon all officials to carry out their responsibilities with seriousness, coordination, and commitment to meet the prescribed timelines.
The DC also reviewed the implementation of the ongoing Abua Caste-Residence Certificate Campaign. Stressing the need to ensure that the benefits of the initiative reach the grassroots level, he directed officials to undertake extensive awareness and publicity campaigns ahead of the camps. The objective, he said, is to maximize participation from residents in both rural and urban areas.
