Passengers on a Delhi to Ranchi IndiGo flight experienced a major commotion after a technical glitch delayed takeoff. Chaos and commotion erupted at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport when an Indigo flight (6E2614) bound for Ranchi experienced a technical snag just before takeoff. This malfunction left passengers trapped inside the plane for hours, almost hostage-like. The most serious problem arose when the plane’s air conditioning was shut off, leaving passengers suffocating in the humid and intense heat.
According to eyewitnesses and passengers, the flight was scheduled to take off on schedule but was delayed citing a technical fault. Instead of disembarking, passengers were kept inside for two to three hours. The heat became so intense that the temperature inside the plane became unbearable. Videos and photos on social media showed passengers in extreme distress. Some were seen fanning themselves with magazines in their seat pockets, while others tried to cool themselves with clothing. Children and the elderly were particularly affected by the heat.
When the airline staff failed to provide a concrete solution, nor were the passengers allowed to disembark, the passengers’ patience finally ran out. They expressed their strong objection to the crew and began a violent uproar inside the plane. They stated that keeping them in such a confined cabin without air conditioning was inhumane and could have even led to serious health problems. Indigo administration swung into action, responding to the growing commotion and the passengers’ strong protest. The plane doors were opened, and apron buses (airport buses) were called. All passengers were safely disembarked and brought back to the terminal.
