Marking a significant step towards strengthening Jharkhand’s school education system, Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday distributed appointment letters to 1,042 newly selected Intermediate and Graduate Trained Assistant Teachers at a ceremony held at the Tana Bhagat Indoor Stadium in Khelgaon, Ranchi. On the occasion, he also launched the online Continuous Professional Development (CPD) training programme for teachers of Classes VI to XII in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Addressing the newly appointed teachers, the Chief Minister said they had been entrusted not merely with government jobs but with the responsibility of shaping the future of Jharkhand’s next generation. He urged them to dedicate themselves to raising educational standards and ensuring that the state emerges as a leader in the field of education.
“The intellectual future of Jharkhand now rests on your shoulders. Your knowledge, conduct and work ethic will determine the future of our children,” Soren said, while congratulating the appointees and their families on the milestone.
He described teachers as the most crucial link in nation-building and called upon them to serve as the “eyes, ears and hands” of the government, particularly in remote and rural areas where access to quality education remains a challenge. He emphasised that every child studying in government schools deserves quality education and a safe learning environment.
Warning against any form of misconduct or inhumane treatment of students, the Chief Minister said the government would take strict action in cases involving abuse or negligence. He urged teachers to remain sensitive towards children and foster an inclusive atmosphere where merit, ability and values are given precedence over caste or religion.
Soren said the 1,042 appointments represented a major addition to the state’s intellectual capital, noting that the selected candidates had emerged successful from among lakhs of applicants. He added that the recruitment drive reflected the government’s commitment to strengthening public institutions and generating employment.
Highlighting the government’s efforts to improve public education, the Chief Minister said the Mukhyamantri Utkrisht Vidyalaya (Schools of Excellence) initiative had significantly changed public perception about government schools. He noted that while these schools currently have around 9,000 to 10,000 seats, they receive more than 40,000 applications, reflecting growing public confidence in the quality of education being offered.
He also welcomed the appointment of more than 200 science teachers, saying the recruitment would address the long-standing shortage of science faculty in government schools and enable more students to pursue careers in engineering, medicine and other professional fields.
Several newly appointed assistant teachers shared their experiences during the programme. Ranchi’s Sita Kumari described the appointment as the culmination of a 22-year-long struggle and expressed gratitude to the government for providing the opportunity. Manoj Kumar Vaidya thanked the Chief Minister for declaring 2026 as the “Year of Appointments” and pledged to discharge his responsibilities with honesty and dedication.
Another appointee, Pradeep Kumar Yadav, said the transparent and merit-based recruitment process had strengthened his family’s faith in the system. Recalling his mother’s emotional reaction after the results were announced, he said she continues to preserve the newspaper carrying the news of the recruitment and had urged him to serve with integrity.
Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore, Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji, Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, School Education and Literacy Department Secretary Uma Shankar Singh, senior government officials, newly appointed teachers and their family members attended the ceremony.
