Students of Loreto Convent Ranchi participated in a cyber safety awareness programme organised by CyberPeace Foundation, aimed at educating young internet users about online threats, digital responsibility and technology-enabled human trafficking.
The session was led by Major Vineet Kumar, Founder and Global President of CyberPeace, who was introduced by Priyanka Jain. During the programme, Kumar highlighted the growing risks associated with internet-connected technologies and explained how devices such as smartphones, Wi-Fi routers, CCTV cameras and other smart devices can become vulnerable to cyberattacks if not properly secured.
The interactive session covered a range of cyber threats, including phishing scams, malicious links, fake job offers, cyberbullying, ransomware, identity theft, digital arrest frauds and AI-generated deepfakes. Students were encouraged to follow basic cyber hygiene practices such as using strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication and safeguarding their privacy online.
A major focus of the programme was technology-assisted human trafficking and online exploitation. Through real-life examples and case studies, students learned how criminals misuse social media, gaming platforms, messaging apps and fake employment or modelling offers to target and manipulate individuals. Participants were advised to verify opportunities carefully and seek guidance from trusted adults whenever they encounter suspicious online interactions.
Students were also introduced to resources such as the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, Cyber Crime Helpline (1930) and Child Helpline (1098) to report cyber-related incidents.
The session witnessed enthusiastic participation, with students engaging in discussions and raising questions about online safety. Kumar also highlighted emerging threats such as AI-powered scams, voice cloning and deepfake technology, while encouraging families to adopt verification measures to prevent fraud.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from the school administration, which expressed appreciation to the CyberPeace team and students for making the awareness initiative a success. Organisers said the session aimed to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to stay safe online and become responsible digital citizens.
