A meeting of the District Sports Steering Committee was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha at the Collectorate to review sports development initiatives and strengthen sports infrastructure across the district.

The Deputy Commissioner directed officials to fill the vacant coach position at the Day-Boarding Boys’ Basketball Training Centre at Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Sector-5, and prepare detailed proposals within a week for launching new day-boarding training centres for athletics, football, kho-kho, wrestling, badminton and other sports.

Emphasising the expansion of sports activities in schools, he instructed the District Education Officer and District Education Superintendent to identify institutions where day-boarding or residential sports training centres can be established and recommend priority sports disciplines.

To ensure athletes’ welfare, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Civil Surgeon to conduct monthly health check-ups of trainees at residential and Eklavya sports centres. The Food Safety Officer was asked to carry out regular inspections of food quality provided to players.

He also instructed District Sports Officer Hemlata Boon to prepare a sports calendar from June to December in coordination with sports associations, covering awareness programmes, talent hunts, coaching camps and major competitions.

The Deputy Commissioner further directed officials to arrange live screenings of major sporting events at Panchayat-level Knowledge Centres to encourage greater interest in sports among rural youth. He stressed coordinated efforts by sports associations, training centres and the administration to strengthen the district’s sporting culture and create better opportunities for athletes.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Development Commissioner Shatabdi Majumdar, District Sports Officer Hemlata Boon, District Education Superintendent Jagarnath Lohra, District Education Officer Atul Kumar Chaube and other committee members.
